22nd AMLI ANNUAL MEETING, 2009
PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
The meeting unites professionals engaged in the practice and study of medical laboratory immunology and provides an opportunity to enhance their knowledge of immunologic principles and their application to immune mediated disorders. Attendees will hear experts in the field present new and cutting-edge information about the pathogenesis, diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of immunological disorders. This meeting will also highlight new discoveries in immunology and novel and emerging technologies in laboratory medicine. Finally, this annual meeting offers the individual not only a format for learning but also for collaborations and essential interactions vital to their development and growth.
After attending the meeting attendees should be able to:
1. Discuss new developments in the areas of transplantation, clinical flow cytometry, cancer immunology, multiplexing assays, vitamin D and the immune system, vaccines, monitoring immune responses, autoimmunity and quality control issues.
2. Discuss the appropriate testing and interpretation of the test results with development to a differential diagnosis for four selected cases.
3. Recognize the advantages and challenges of multiplexing analysis.
4. Describe the role of the Th17 regulatory network in autoimmune diseases and their potential clinical applications.
5. Discuss the HIV vaccine initiatives in the US and abroad.
6. Recognize the issues related to geographic atrophy in age-related macular degeneration and TLR3.
7. Discuss the issues around controlling the alloresponse.
ACCREDITATION
The AMLI is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.
DESIGNATION
The AMLI designates this continuing medical education activity for a maximum of 15 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the educational activity.
DISCLOSURE POLICY
Faculty and all others who have the ability to control the content of continuing medical education activities sponsored by the AMLI are expected to disclose to the audience whether they do or do not have any real or apparent conflict(s) of interest or other relationships related to the content of their presentations.
TRAVEL ALLOWANCE SCHOLARSHIPS
The AMLI will award a limited number of travel allowance scholarships for graduate students, post-doctoral level laboratorians and med techs who submit an abstract accepted for presentation at the Annual Meeting. The scholarship recipient must present the poster. Only one scholarship will be provided per accepted abstract, and per individual regardless of the number of abstracts accepted. AMLI will reimburse travel expenses up to $1000/recipient and waive the registration fee for the Meeting only. Allowable expenses include lowest applicable airfare, car travel, hotel, and meals (@ $40.00 per day). Original receipts for expenses must be submitted to the AMLI Treasurer no later than 9/15/2009. If more applicants submit accepted abstracts than the number of travel allowance scholarships available, scholarships will be awarded based on abstract receipt dates. Scholarship recipients will be notified upon abstract acceptance. No one shall receive a travel scholarship more than twice in a three-year period.
