MISSION STATEMENT

The Association of Medical Laboratory Immunologists was organized in 1987 to bring together professional and technical people engaged in the practice and study of medical laboratory immunology. The organization consists of clinical scientists, physicians, dentists, veterinarians, medical technologists, and other professionals engaged in all areas of current laboratory testing. The organization holds an annual meeting where information on all aspects of laboratory immunology are presented including new test development, technical and quality control aspects of current testing, the impact of regulatory issues, new developments in basic immunology and their impact on the practice of clinical immunology, clinical case studies, poster sessions, and round table discussions with experts in the field. The organization's mission is to improve the practice of clinical immunology laboratory testing by encouraging education and training of all individuals in the organization, maximizing the quality of test procedures, promoting the exchange of information, supporting clinical research efforts, and improving patient care.

Association of Medical Laboratory Immunologists (AMLI)

The purpose of the Continuing Medical Education Program of the Association of Medical Laboratory Irnmunologists is, broadly, to facilitate the exchange of information relating to clinical laboratory immunology. The annual national meeting seeks to bring together academic, research, and technical staff to generate information and education for the development and delivery of immunologic laboratory services.

The content of the Continuing Medical Education effort includes:

1. Providing information on the development of new diagnostic tests.
2. Reviewing commercial product development, evaluation and use.
3. Providing educational experiences concerning the standardization of tests between laboratories.
4. Discussing clinical interpretation of existing and newly developed tests.
5. Discussing quality control and quality improvement issues.
6. Discussing the technical aspects of performing new and existing tests.
7. Performing medical immunology laboratory services in a cost-effective manner.
8. Providing education in basic immunology and updates as needed.
9. Providing a forum for presentation of new technologies.
10. Measuring outcomes of pertinent immunologic issues.


The characteristics of the target audience include practitioners (M.D's, Ph.D's, technical, and industrial) in the specialties of immunology throughout the continental United States and other countries.

The educational activities and services provided now consist of the national Annual Meeting of 4 to 5 days of lectures and workshops. An update course has been held periodically, prior to the Annual Meeting to serve as a means of general review for the membership. Other educational services provided for the membership include a peer reviewed journal, a web page (www.amli.org), presenting sessions and occasional joint sponsorship of CME programs with other Immunology Societies and Associations.

Keeping our membership aware of the impact of new technologies and diagnostic tests.

wHAT THE AMLI OFFERS ITS MEMBERS

Annual Meeting - held in the summertime where all members can discuss the latest issues in laboratory testing and advances in Clinical Immunology.

Committee Memberships - the membership is encouraged to participate in committees whose activities include Education, Regulatory Affairs, Membership, and Standards.

Membership Roster - contains a list of many individuals working in leading hospital, clinic, reference, and national testing laboratories who are experts in the wide variety of testing performed in today's busy clinical laboratories. The membership also includes professionals involved in the development and manufacture of diagnostic testing reagents and equipment.
